What does the media server do?

Have you ever wished you could access all of your PSP-compatible media files without having to physically connect the PSP or PSP Slim to your computer? Have you ever wanted to access your music from a hotspot or show off some photos on your home PC while at a friend's house? We have great news for you!

The Locura™ Personal Media Server gives you wireless access to your media:

Browse your entire video collection! Download your videos wirelessly with a simple click. 1
View your audio folders and create auto-updating streaming music feeds on the fly.
Browse your dynamically-resized pictures from your favorite hotspot or anywhere you can connect to the internet. 2
Access all your media from a standard browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari (no PSP or PSP Slim required!)
Change the look of your media pages with built-in themes or create your own! (For more information, see the FAQ).
If you have a background in HTML and Visual Basic, you can make more advanced page changes. (More info in the FAQ).

And since the Locura™ Personal Media Server is simply a personal web server with PSP and PSP Slim extensions (as well as others), no homebrew is required! You can use the Locura™ Personal Media Server on any firmware version since 2.0. 3 In fact, because this is simply a web server, you can view your files on any compatible browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Firefox.

1 Currently the PSP and PSP Slim don't support video streaming, but videos can be downloaded wirelessly.

2 See requirements.

3 Since a web browser is required, firmware versions before 2.0 will not be able to access the Locura™ Personal Media Server.

FAQ

Q: Does the Locura™ Personal Media Server require any special homebrew applications?

A: No. The Locura™ Personal Media Server is a web server with PSP tailored extensions, so you are simply pointing your PSP's web browser to your computer.

Q: Do I need to install other software such as a web server?

A: No. Since the Locura™ Personal Media Server is a fully functioning web server, it is all built-in. You simply install the application, and go: No detailed list of instructions and no other download sites to visit. In fact, the only software the Locura™ Personal Media Server needs is the Microsoft .NET Framework which is included in the installation (for more information, see requirements).

Q: Since it is a web server, will I be able to use it if I already run a web server?

A: Yes! The Locura™ Personal Media Server is easily configured to use any port.

Q: How difficult is it to make my own themes?

A: A little knowledge of style sheets and image editing is all you need. Instructions should be available shortly after release and we hope to have a theme manager application in the near future.

Requirements

To use the Locura™ Personal Media Server you must have a computer with the Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 installed (This is free and comes with the installation). Only the Windows 2000, 2003, and XP operating systems are supported, but due to the nature of .NET other OS versions may become available.

In order to access the Locura™ Personal Media Server from a PSP, Mac, PC, or other device in your home you must have a network connection (such as through ethernet or a wireless router) to the computer running the media server.

In order to access the Locura™ Personal Media Server from outside your home, the computer running the media server must have a connection to the internet, and the appropriate port must be forwarded. You can then access the Locura™ Personal Media Server from any web browser connected to the Internet provided this access is not restricted by your Internet Service Provider. For more information, see this support article.
